Educational presentation & workshop
Falmouth University, Falmouth, UK
February 2024
I was invited by the Falmouth University Fashion & Textiles Institute to present and host a workshop based on my MA Design research. The event brought together BA Fashion Design students from all years to explore themes of inclusive fashion and participatory design research.
The session began with a one-hour online presentation of my research, followed by a Q&A. This was complemented by an in-person, hands-on workshop at the Penryn Campus.
During the workshop, students engaged with inclusive fashion methods and participatory design practices through rapid prototyping. They created a variety of prototypes, either inspired by their own sensory and wellbeing interests or building on existing projects in inclusive fashion.
Traditionally, prototyping in fashion is reserved for later stages of the process, often resulting in designs that are not fully centred around the body. This workshop challenged that norm by demonstrating how early-stage prototyping can serve as a source of inspiration, leading to more inclusive and body-conscious design outcomes.
Students provided positive feedback, highlighting how the workshop deepened their understanding of participatory design methods as a tool for gathering meaningful research.

Student Work and Tactile Exploration: Students explore some prototypes and explore the use of materials and trims as sensory and adjustability aides.
